In My Thoughts This Fine Day #14

Holy Crap! A In My Thoughts post? I know, right?! It's been a while.

 1. Guys, I'm so BORED with my current reads! I don't want to fall into a slump because of them but I also don't want to give up on these ones. I'm reading A Madness so Discreet by Mindy McGinnis and I'm pretty sure I'm the only person on the planet who is bugged by it. My problem with it has things to do with my ...*gulps* dislike of anything Sherlock Holmes. Don't hurt me! I'm sorry. I just can't stand anything to do with Sherlock. I've tried it all and I hate it all. Any way, this one has nothing to do with Sherlock but it kind of feels like it and it's bugging me. Plus I'm 130 pages in and am still trying to figure out where its going. I need something soon or I'm giving up.
I'm also reading Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein and it's OK but slow. I'm reading it for book club so I won't give up but...I kinda want to.

2. I keep thinking of giving up blogging but then I think of the why I haven't yet. I remember when blogging was so fun for me. I couldn't wait to sit down and write a silly post or a book review. Now I have to force myself to write anything. It's not that I'm so much busier than before, either. Though, I am. I blame smart phones. I find myself sitting down to read or blog or even watch a stupid TV show and somehow I end up looking at Facebook or Instagram or Pinterest on my stupid phone! I'm seriously freaked out by this strange habit. I was born in the early 80s. I've only had a phone for 11 years and only a smart phone for like 5 years. That's not even a third of my life and yet I'm addicted! I've decided I'm going to put my phone in another room when I sit down to read etc. so I don't pick it up. As for blogging? I'm going to try to remember what I loved so much about it.

3. A moment for a soccer mention. Wow! I know! I'm talking about soccer again?! It's been, what? 5 years since I've had a soccer post? Crazy! Let me explain why. I had to get rid of my precious soccer channel. I was trying to save money and it had to go. So I couldn't watch my boys anymore and suddenly a bunch of them were transferred to different teams and new guys were transferred in and now I hardly recognize my beloved Real Madrid boys. So sad. I miss it but now, not only have I gotten rid of the channel, but have gotten rid of TV all together. Anywho, in my absence a certain player who I'm pretty sure is a vampire...has made giant strides.

A Facebook post by our "vampire" . If you remember he turned his fellow team mates and after this post I saw this picture.
Is this him motioning to all he owns?!

Stay safe my friends! The "vampire" is coming!

  1. I am bored with my reads, too. To the point I am just not reading. Go me. lol Hope you find something that works for you soon. I really enjoyed Code Name Verity, but it does take a while to get going. I almost didn't read it at all because I have some strong dislike of her earlier books, but it was worth it in the end. I have yet to read any of the spin offs...

    1. That's what everyone says. I just have to get to the good part I guess.

  2. Lol. I understand your dislike for Sherlock. I personally love it because I love those types of stories. I always have, but I've never read any of them so I don't know how I'd feel with an actual Sherlock book or a book that feels Sherlock-y.

And, you got rid of TV? Do you want things on the computer now? Or, do you just not watch anything ever? I think it's great. I don't think I could do it. (I'm sure I could if I wanted to enough, but our HOA covers our cable so there's no need to give it up if we're already paying our HOA fee.)

    1. We just watch Hulu and Netflix. Plus I use the CW app to watch Jane the Virgin. Other than that, I'm done paying so much for tv.

  3. So happy to see the return of the soccer player posts! I mean, I hope there's more to follow! Ah, and whenever I put my phone in a different room for awhile (like the other day I went down and watched a movie while my phone charged upstairs) I come back to all hell breaking loose and everyone YELLING at me on my phone cause I'm not answering! It never fails...

Good luck with the books. Um yeah. I think I relate...

  4. Sorry your current reads aren't going better. I hate when I end up in the middle of books I'm not loving. And I hope you find the fun of blogging again soon. I know I really enjoy your posts! Have a happy week. :)

  5. I'm sorry you're bored with your reads. I liked both A MADNESS SO DISCREET and CODE NAME VERITY, but neither is exactly a page turner! I'm bored with what I'm reading now, but it's a Whitney Award finalist, so I have to stick with it. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't.

  6. I can so relate, Jenny! I've been having this problem for quite a while, though now I'm reading The Thirteenth Tale and it's SOOO good! (I know you've read it.)

I've recently been figuring out why I love some of the stories, whatever medium they are brought to me by, that I do love so very much, and I think it comes down to them giving me something I'm lacking in my life. They speak to my needs and 'fill' my voids. These are the stories I love truly, madly, deeply. I'm going to start doing this consciously from now on because maybe it'll get me out of my reader rut.

  7. Good for you on cutting out cable! I have cut other corners but I'm not ready to give that one up, I love my football too much right now.

Recently I've been big on DNF'ing so I say if the book isn't keeping you interested, move on!

  8. Coincidentally, I'm also reading Code Name Verity! Well, I was. It was due back at the library before I could finish it and I haven't been able to get another copy yet. I do agree with you though, it's definitely a slow burn plot. It starts to get interesting when you get towards the middle but it's still slow. I really want to see where it ends up, though, so I'll keep fighting through too. Don't give up!!

  9. I wouldn't say that my reads are boring me, but I am definitely having a difficult time with them holding my attention for any length of time. I'm in the midst of about 10 books right now, and that is just simply ridiculous!

  10. I do miss your soccer posts!! But, saving money, it's important too.

I feel you on the smart phone addiction. I hate how often I turn to it (although, to be fair, I read a lot of eArcs on it from edelweiss, and it's how I listen to my audiobooks). I've thought about deleting the Facebook app off my phone... but it hardly matters, since these days I'm addicted to Litsy.

And, finally, have you thought of taking on a blogger partner? I'm so glad Kim joined my site! I love book blogging, but it can feel like a chore some days. Having a blogging partner (or two, or three) could really re-energize you. Or you could join another blog... because I would miss the hell out of your book blogging voice.

As for quitting A Madness So Discreet.. well, maybe you should. If it's not working for you, and you're reading another book that's a slow read, then yes, move on! I'm listening to The Hate U Give, and holy crap, it is definitely not a slow burn!

  11. I'm bored with my current read as well! It is SO long, and I'm struggling, but I'm interested, but I'm bored, AGH!

My blogging has also suffered. I've been thinking about what to do. I'm in the same situation where it used to be so fun, and now it is a chore. :(

  12. I can relate to how you are feeling about blogging. I told my husband last week I was going to quit and he said "again?" :) It's very hard to balance. I keep having to find those reminders of why I love it.

  13. I'm for Real Madrid also but mainly because I have been a France fan forever and follow Zidane :-)

My first book of the year, while great, gave a huge hangover and I haven't really enjoyed my reads fully since, hence feeling like I haven't blogged lately, sigh. Also, I just finished my job of 9 years and start a new in a week, that transition has made me very busy.

Blogging is like a roller coaster, I guess we should just enjoy the ride until we really say time to get off.

  14. I'm with Marce, I think blogging is a bit like a roller coaster. I've always be sporadic with my posts, but it seems to have gotten worse here more recently. I do NOT want to give it up yet though, so onward!
