Summer Reading Plans

Yeah, I wish I was at the beach and bold enough to wear those bright green shades. Summer is a bit of a drag for me. Don't get me wrong, I like it well enough, but there's no new TV shows (well a few)  and no soccer so alas I tend to get bored. Luckily I love to read and always make a nice list of books I hope to read each summer.  So, here's my list.

This is only 13 of the 21 I plan on reading. I just thought you'd enjoy a pic.

Under the Dome by Stephan King
I hope to read this one in a buddy read with Suey of It's All About Books
 Middlemarch by Gerorge Eliot
This one is my book club's summer pick
The Virgin's Lover by Philippa Gregory
I always try to read one of these every summer
Just Listen by Sarah Dessen
This one is a friend's I'm borrowing so it will be first up
Possession by Elana Johnson
I hope to buy this one
I Don't Want to Kill You by Dan Wells
I can't wait to finish off this series
Mercy by Rebecca Lim
I've been waiting for this one for a good six months so I've got to get to it soon
Divergent by Veronica Roth
Everyone is raving about this one. I've got to see what it's all about
Birthmarked by Caragh M. O'Brien
Yay! I finally got my hands on this one and now I can't wait to read it
Tattoo Jennifer Lynn Barnes
I'm just so interested to see what this one is all about
The Ghost and the Goth by Stacey Kade
This one looks absolutely hilarious to me
Warprize by Elizabeth Vaughan
I need a good fantasy in here somewhere
Bruiser by Neal Shusterman
I love Neal Shusterman and I've heard good things.
Back When You Were Easier To Love by Emily Wing Smith
This is a local author's book and I've been trying to get to it since I had the honor of getting it signed
Mermaid by Carolyn Turgeon
I'm obsessed with the cover of this one so I've just got to read it
The Boyfriend List Ruby Oliver #1 by E. Lockhart
I need a light fun read that makes me laugh. I have high hopes for this one
Colonel Brandon's Diary by Amanda Grange
I just heard about this one a month or so ago. I've got to read it!
Ripple by Mandy Hubbard
This one comes out in July, can't wait.
Nightlife by Rob Thurman
I keep thinking about this one and staring at the cover. It's time to see what it's all about
The Power of Six by Pittacus Lore
I've been waiting for this one since I read I Am Number Four
Shade by Jeri Ready Smith
Another I've been waiting to get to

Yes, that's 21 books! I hope to average 7 a month. I'm thinking Middlemarch and Under the Dome are going to be an ongoing thing all summer. I own 12 of the 21 so that will put a small dent in my owned books. The others will be bought soon or gotten from the library. So what do you think of my list? Anything I should add, or take away? What are you reading this summer or do you even plan on anything specific?

  1. Wow! Just a little ambitious. Good for you. I can't believe I've not heard of even one of these books. Let us know which ones are really worth the read!

  2. +JMJ+

Middlemarch is a great one--the source of one of the best reading experiences of my life. It wasn't summer, but the months were warm; and I can reread a few passages of George Eliot's prose and feel the sun on my arms again.

My own plan for the next few months (not summer in my part of the world) is to slow down a bit. In fact, I've already done that and need a good book to get my momentum back.

  3. Dana, Will do. I hope it's not too ambitious of me. ;)

Enbrethiliel, I'm glad to hear that about Middlemarch, honestly, I'm a little worried about that one.

  4. Wow! Awesome pile!
Birthmarked is waiting for me at the library, so I need to get to that one soon too. I also need to get my hands on Under the Dome, it's in paperback now, right? I'm excited for you to read Bruiser. I hope you love it... and the Dan Wells book too. I told him yesterday that I LOVE John Cleaver! Possession is on my list since I bought it yesterday... and Divergent, yes... what's all the buzz about?

  5. Great list! I hope I can make it through the 10 books I plan to read. :) I always get distracted during the summer so I don't read as much as I always want to. But, it's definitely more than I do while I'm in school. I hope you enjoy your books!

  6. Suey, I believe Under the Dome is in paper back now. Wait?! How did you get Possession? Did I miss something? Sigh! I wish I could have stayed longer to see Dan Wells but you know how it goes.

Jenni Elyse, See, summer is my slow time. Not much else going on so I tend to read a ton.

  7. Hey Jenny, OMG you got Shade make sure you come tell me what you thought of it if you don't post a review. I friggin love that series!!
Supernatural was good this year but it was my least favorite season, Season 1 is my fav I really miss the good old days when they would just go from town to town on regular hunts, before all the angel and demon crap. Don't get me wrong though I love Cass he cracks me up. Though the last episode was awesome , with Sam trying to put his soul back together. I love Sam he's my fav. Holy Ramble, anyway hope u had a great weekend!! =)

  8. Let me know when you start UNDER THE DOME and if it's okay I'll join in as I was recently given a copy of it. (A paperback copy, so, yep, it is out!)

You have so many fantastic books here. I love any George Eliot so it makes me happy to see it on the list. BIRTHMARKED is on my TBR list too as is anything by Neal Shusterman now that I've finished UNWIND.

I'm not huge on summer, either, but I do love sitting outside with a good book. If there were a lake or a beach involved that's perfectly fine, too!

  9. Tristan, I'll be sure to post a review of shade. Probably sooner rather than later. I know what you mean about Supernatural and the whole demon angel thing. I miss the good old days too. This season was better than the last two in my opinion.

Kaye, YAY! You can totally join us with the buddy read. We probably won't start till July or August but I'll let you know. I wish I had a beach on hand. It would make summer so much more bearable.

  10. Wow, I am impressed. I always find it difficult to determine in advance which books I will be reading and I prefer to decide as I go. Looking forward to your reviews!

  11. That's quite a list :)
I am particularly impressed that your book club chose Middlemarch for the summer read. I've always wanted to tackle that one, but never seem to get around to it. I know I need to set aside some time to do it, but somehow I keep getting sidetracked by the new books :(

  12. Selina, I don't usually plan anything but for some reason I like to for the summer.

TheBookGirl, I didn't vote for Middlemarch, I saw the movie and wasn't horribly impressed. I'm hoping the book will be much better.
