Follow Friday!

Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee's. It's a fun way to get to know other bloggers. Today's question:

Q. Let's step away from besties...What is the worst book that you've ever read and actually finished?

I just had to join today for this question. I loathe and will NEVER read again Jane Eyre.

Now, before you get out your torches and pitchforks let me explain. No book has ever made me so furious before. I hated it before I read it! I hate Rochester! I hate Jane's gullibleness and the whole story just drives me insane!

1 Really, really?! Jane would fall in love with, arrogant, selfish, lying, bossy, deceiving Rochester? Yeah, talk about daddy issues!

2 He was NOT forced to marry his "crazy" wife! He fell for her pretty face, married her for looks, and got what he deserved!

3 I'd go crazy too if my husband locked me in the attic and never let me out and then started flirting with, and engaging himself to, some homely governess!  I'd do worse than burn the house down!

4 After all that! Jane decides, oh well, so what, I guess I'll go back and marry the poor sop after all!

I could go on and on! If you want to get into a big argument...er...heated discussion about this one just let me know!

  2. I was so bored with the book that I never finished it. But your rant makes me actually want to read it! You are so funny!

  3. LOL. I love that your entire post is in capital letters, emphasizing how you feel about this book.

I've always wanted to read it just to say that I have. I guess I'll see if I feel the same way. :)

  4. lulz. I got about 20 pages into it and thought it was incredibly depressing. I never even got to the love story plot but that sounds like a mess.
It's funny how many "classics" are on people's lists for this question. Sometimes I wonder who decided what makes a book so special...

  5. The one I can't get is Wuthering Heights. I don't even pretend to understand it. But, if you've read it I'd love to read a review by you. All in UPPER case, even.

  6. Charmaine Elaine, Hey, thanks for stopping by.

Selina, I read it even knowing I wasn't going to like it so you're not the only one. ;)

Jenni Elyse, The capitols was totally by accident but since I can't talk about this book with out at least raising my voice it works.

Kathy, I have no idea why classics are supposed to be soooo good and if you say you don't like one you're some stupid unlearned moron! Whatever.

Cowboy mom. I don't like Wuthering Heights either but I don't hate it as much as Jane Eyre. I did a review of WH on Goodreads if you're really interested.

  8. I have never read this book to be honest.

I LOATHE the Scarlet Letter... I never finished it and didn't get that far into it. That is my most hated book I do believe.

  9. LOL I love your little rant. I read this in school and gotta say, whilst I didn't have your adverse reaction to it it definitely is not my favourite novel. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog, I'll definitely do a post on why I love vampires so much ;)

I'm following you back now =]

  10. Haha! I picked the other Bronte for mine! I loved this one (don't worry, no pitch forks here) but if I had read it in another mind frame I might have hated it. New follower! My Follow Friday is at Coffee Table Reviews

    ROFLMAO!!!

Jane Eyre is probably my favourite novel in the world. =P There's lots I could say in its defense, but I'm actually loving your rant enough to stow it for now. ;-)

  14. Oh dear. It's one of my favorites too.

  15. Sophia, Thanks for stopping by. That's why classics are so great. Just cause one person hates it doesn't mean another will.

Samantha, See, I haven't read The Scarlet Letter but I plan on it one day. I hope my rant hasn't put you off giving this one a try, cause most people LOVE it.

Cait, At least you didn't hate it too, that makes it so much harder to read especially for school. I look forward to your vampire post.

Aimee, Yeah, going into a book with a bad attitude never helps. I just couldn't like a guy as awful as Rochester no matter my attitude.

Book Purring, Oh, sorry. It's never fun to hear someone hate a book you love. :( I just can't help it. BTW, everytime I see your pretty kitty I smile.

Alyssa, Well, at least you can laugh at my rage. I don't mean to offend, I just don't like it.

Enbretiliel, I would NEVER try to argue with you, I read your blog! I love to argue and I'd never turn down a good "discussion" but I'm terrified of arguing with someone as smart and deep as you. Seriously.

Janssen, :( sorry, I hope you won't stop reading my blog.

  16. I heard that book was hard to get into by a couple people recently. :) I think I have it on my TBR list, my mom loves the movie.

  17. Jessica, Most people like it so don't take my word for it. You should still try it.

  18. Haha this made my day! I usually love Victorian novels...but I totally agree with you when it comes to Jane Eyre! I never ended up studying this book at school, but from my own reading I think that its better suited as a gothic novel then anything else!

  19. Natalie, Oh, thank goodness! Someone agrees with me! I was afraid I'd scared off everyone.

  20. Hopping through. New follower! I read this in 9th grade and enjoyed it. But when I read the reasons you didn't like it, that makes a lot of sense too.

  22. LOL love the rant! I actually have to say, I loved Jane Eyre (and the new movie!) but totally agree with your points. This was hilarious!

  23. Alison, Thanks for stopping by. Most people like it so don't worry.

Suey, Hey, every time it's brought up at book club I keep my mouth shut and that's VERY hard for me.

iLuvReadingTooMuch, I'm glad you could laugh at my rant even though you liked the book.

Jenny, you're too nice to me! =) And I'd be happy to discuss anything with you, any day! ;-)

I think "arguing" can be a lot of fun when you have chemistry with the person you're tossing ideas back and forth with. One of my best friends in the world was a roommate I had in uni, who disagreed with me on nearly everything in the universe, and who sometimes pretended to disagree with me, just for the fun of it. (And I know that's what she was doing because I pull stunts like that myself! ;-) LOL!) And I don't think we ever made each other angry or took even the lowest potshots personally. It was as if we were training in martial arts and appreciated every chance we got to deflect a surprise attack--especially the creative ones.

Gosh, I still miss her! (Hmmmm. Now I wonder what she would think of Jane Eyre . . .)

  25. Enbrethiliel, LOL, I love "arguing" with people but most people I know, namely my family, hate it and feel like it's fighting. Sigh! But I also like to "win" said argument and you're way to smart. I'd never win. ;) Sorry, you miss you're friend. I would miss someone like that too.

I have friends like your family. One time, I was "arguing" about a movie with some other fans, and she interrupted to ask, "Why don't you guys just relax and enjoy it?" We turned to her, bewildered looks on our faces (or perhaps just on mine), and said, "What did you think we were doing?"

It threw her for a bit of a loop. LOL! But she's one of those who will back down for the sake of harmony, and therefore, no real fun. ;-)

  27. Enbrethiliel, LOL, we would be perfect movie buddies. My sister hates confrontation and takes everything that way. It's so frustrating. We do make fun of stuff together very well.
