Shelving Saturday

Shelving Saturday is a weekly blog event hosted by Ang at Eastern Sunset Reads. Each week she will post a shelving dilemma or question and you can join her in the response.

So the last couple of weeks we completed re-organizing our bookshelves in a way that suits each of us. Now this week I want to start discussing virtual shelving.  Most of us little bookworms already are aware of the online websites that help us keep track of our books, but I want to spend a few weeks discussing them.  The main sites that I know of are Shelfari, LibraryThing and Goodreads.  So do you use any of these sites or all three of them? Or do you know of another one that I don't have listed? Please share.
I'm a Goodreads girl all the way, but I have checked out Shelfari and, if I'm remembering correctly, I loved that you could looks up books by subject matter. Very helpful. My only real problem with Goodreads is I never added books that I read before I started using Goodreads. That's OK, right? Nobody would probably bother and I didn't intend to either, however, I would, at least, like to add the books I own that were read long before I joined Goodreads, but it will bombard my poor friends with update emails. Weird reason, I know, but what can I say? I'm weird.

So...? How about you? What book organizing sites do you use? Am I missing out on a great one?

  1. I use Shelfari and Goodreads. I prefer Shelfari because I love its look and most of its features better. But, more people (and especially authors) are on Goodreads so I'm a member there too. I also really like their "current page" feature.

I'm thinking about joining LibraryThing, but then I think, just one more site to keep up with, lol. Plus, I keep a list of all my books in Excel too. (I'm a little anal.)

  4. I don't organize anything. OH sure I always think I'm going to but I never do. Is that a bad thing???

  5. I've used Shelfari, but I just find Goodreads a lot more user-friendly. Goodreads always keeps track of what books I read and stuff so I don't ever forget!

  6. Cowboy mom, Hey, you know what they say, it's the thought that counts. ;)

Roxy, I think I'll just stick with Goodreads too.

  7. Thanks for joining Jenny! As one of your followers I appreciate your concern with the emails :P but I think that would drive me crazy. I myself haven't added all the books I read previously but if I come across one I will add it. I have however added all the books I own. I have to say though I am a little jealous of anyone who starts adding books on goodreads now because there is that great app for smart phones so you just scan the book and it adds it automatically instead of manually like I had to (it took weeks!).
