Review: Crossed

Title Crossed (Matched 2)

First sentence I'm standing in a river.

Synopsis
Separated from each other, Cassia and Ky are both on the run from The Society. Searching for each other and the rumored Rising they each face an uncertain future.

General thoughts
Ugh, I'm sorry but this one was one big circle! Completely a filler\bridge book. Ky and Cassia both get to narrate but I found their voice so similar that I kept getting confused...not good. I'm not a Ky fan so listening to him mope on and on wasn't really a blast for me and there was hardly any thing about Xander which was a bit of a disappointment. The worst thing, though, was the circle I mentioned. ***spoilery*** Ky and Cassia start out separated, end up both wandering around in the mountains, find each other, wander around some more and then end up separated again with Cassia going back to the Society. And that's it, people, that's the whole book! ***end of spoiler*** What was the point of that?!  In Matched the Society was a villain you love to hate, they were freaky, always watching, an ever present danger, but in this one they were virtually nonexistent. Sure, they were mentioned but they hardly had a role, and after the absolute control they had in Matched I found it a little hard to buy into their convenient absence. The ending was rushed and wrapped up a little to nicely for my taste. It would have been better if there was less time wandering in the mountains and more time with the Rising.

Characters
Cassia: Meh, she actually doesn't bother me that much. She's fairly practical and at least cares for more than just Ky. *spoiler* Really? Really she'd just shrug and go back to the Society, no questions asked? *end spoiler*
Ky: Argh! I hate his poor picked on me attitude! What do people see in him?!
Indie: A little zealous but I liked her.
Eli: Cute kid but he fell a little flat to me.
Vick: Lets just say I didn't shed any tears.
Hunter: I didn't really have an opinion of him.
Xander: Um, Xander was in this book? Are you sure? ;)

Would I recommend it?
Yeah, they're not terrible books. This one just fell a flat for me.

  2. **My comment is full of spoilers**
I felt the same way about Crossed. Nothing really happened and after they went to all that effort to be together it didn't make sense for them to split up at the end. Ky seemed like a jerk (with the whole map thing), and then Xander's big reveal was kind of spoiled by the book summary. It was just kind of disappointing all around for me.

  3. I haven't read the first book Matched yet but it's doing the rounds on the blogs I read. Maybe it's Buffy's fault but I can never take a guy with the name Xander seriously. Don't you think that sometimes the second books in some series are just there as filler?

  4. Are you ready for this.... I think I kinda sort of... okay... a lot... agree with you!

    SPOILERS NOW:

I do still like Ky, but I was bugged we didn't have more Xander. I was bugged by the ending. I was bugged more STUFF didn't happen. And I'm very confused about the relationship between all these different groups. And who is The Enemy?

  6. That's too bad that this one fell flat... I wasn't in love with the first book, but I was hoping the second one would step it up a notch. And I HATE mopey characters... yuck!

  7. I'm excited to read it, but, I was worried it might be dull and full of filler. I'm hoping the next book rounds everything out well. I love reading your honest reviews. :)

  8. Tristan, I'm glad you're back! I'm impressed you even glance at my review. If I haven't read the book I won't even click on the post. ;)

Kathy, Yeah, I didn't hate it but it wasn't great and had to much filler.

Lan, Yeah, but it depends on the series. I love the second LOTR.

Suey, Oh. My. Gosh! Seriously?!! We agreed? ;) I kept wondering that too. Who the heck was the Enemy? Did we miss something?

iwriteinbooks, It's not a bad series I just liked the first one better and I don't like the stupid love interested so...

Natalie, I didn't love the first book but it was OK. This one wasn't as good and that's bad.

Jessica, I'll read the last one and hope that it all ends good.

  10. The one thing I liked about the first book was that not everyone was dreadfully unhappy. I think that is how a dystopia would really go down-- most people would be okay with all the control. So I'll read the second and see.
