First sentence Near sunset of my second full day as a guest in Roseland, crossing the immense lawn between the main house and the eucalyptus grove, I halted and pivoted, warned by instinct.
Synopsis
After fleeing the small seaside town with Annamaria, Odd finds himself the unwanted guest at Roseland. An estate owned by an eccentric billionaire and inhabited by his loyal and creepy servants. But things aren't what they seem. Things in Odd's life rarely are.
What it has going for it
You have no idea how much I love Odd or how desperately long I waited for this one to come out! I'm ashamed that it took me so long to read. It has nothing to do with the quality of the book, though. Believe me, this one was just as amazing as the rest. Odd was great as his usual amusing, tenderhearted self. The plot was definitely wild this time around. I found myself equally confused and creeped out in a delightful way. I'm dying to see what happens next and what adventures Odd and Annamaira will get to next. I loved the reappearance of a dark room just because it's perfectly creepy and makes me wonder how all the books will eventually tie together. I also love that the new ghost is Alfred Hitchcock. This should be interesting indeed. I just love these books! If you haven't read them you should. They're funny and creepy and suspenseful and moving with a MC who you can't help but love.
What's lacking
Like I said, this one was a bit wild but that's not really a complaint.
Favorite moment
I can't say much without being spoilery but I loved the ending and Odd's heart wrenching choice.
Yea or Nay?
Of course. I'll recommend these books to all types of readers till the day I die.
Hmm... I really should look into these books. I love good main characters. Thanks for the review!
ReplyDeleteI think you'd like them. You really should check them out.
DeleteI've always thought Dean Koontz was a horror writer. This sounds like it'd be a really cool series. How scary are the ghosts because that is my one unreasonable fear when it comes to PN.
ReplyDeleteThe ghost's aren't really scary at all it's other things that are...I wouldn't call them scary but creepy.
DeleteThis book is up for best horror book on Goodreads, so I guess they do consider to be in that genre.
DeleteThis one was pretty horrific in a disturbing way.
DeleteOoo, never heard of this series and even though this is an adult book (and I'm a teen :P) I need to totally check this out! Great review :D

It's a really great series and you don't need to be an adult to enjoy them.
DeleteSomeday I will get to this book. I plan on reading Odd Thomas hopefully in November. :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you get to it. I think you'll like them....even if Steph didn't. ;)
Delete"Recommended by Me" - I don't know why that amuses me so much, but it does. I've never read any of Dean Koontz books, but clearly I need to!
ReplyDeleteYeah, if I chose to read it all on my own I put "Me". These are my favorite Koontz books.
DeleteI used to adore Dean R. Koontz, but I haven't read him for years. Several people (including you) have recommended this series to me. I think I need to take your advice and read it already!
ReplyDeleteThis series, in my opinion, is better than any of his other books.
DeleteOkay. Okay. I'm going to read these. Do you think they would do well on audio, or should I read them in print?
ReplyDeleteI can't decide. I'm not an audio fan and I wouldn't want someone else changing Odd's voice in my head.

ReplyDeleteOdd Thomas has been on my To Read List for years. When I finally start the series, I'm sure I'll be kicking myself for not having begun earlier. =)
I do that with books all the time. I would highly recommend getting to it sooner rather than later, though. ;)
DeleteI've never read any Koontz books because I don't like to be scared. What do you think? Think I can handle the scare factor??
ReplyDeleteThey aren't scary they're creepy. Does that help?
DeleteI would describe the two I read as page turning suspense.
DeleteAnd you were so on the money with The Ghost and the Goth... :p
ReplyDeleteAw whatever! Kate and I will keep Odd to ourselves.
DeleteI wonder if I'll even catch up? So... there's more? This didn't end the series? Will it go on and on and on?
ReplyDeleteI have no idea how long it will go on but since I love it, I'm fine with it going on for a while. ;)
