Hello, Is There Anybody Out There?

Back in 2013 when I met my husband and began dating, my blogging really slowed down. Then after getting married and spending our fist year together, it got even quieter on my blog. When I finally got back into this blogging world I was so sad to see that so many of my favorite bloggers had stopped posting. I started thinking that maybe this whole blogging thing was really, once and for all becoming extinct.

But, I like to pretend I'm resilient so I continued to blog. Joined Top Ten Tuesday and saw that so many people are still book blogging! Yay! So I selected a few new to me blogs and commented on them...and started following them and commenting on all their posts.

See, not so long ago this was the way to get others to follow and comment on your blog. Not that I HAVE to have comments but it's nice to get reciprocation, conversation, discussion, you know? I got nothing! What's up with this book blogging world? I'm so confused and sad. I miss the old days. Sigh!

Oh, well, in the mean time I shall follow my small group of blogging buddies who regularly post and interact with me.

Anyone out there agree with me that this whole blog interaction thing has changed dramatically?

  1. YES!!!!!

It has totally changed. Part of it, I'm sure, is me. I blog less and comment less, but in general there is a lot less interaction then there was when I first started blogging. Which makes me sad, because I love the interactions.

I used to think it was me because I don't comment a lot anymore, but like you, even when I do comment there isn't much reciprocation, and I'm just not willing to do all the work to get more, so I'm just going to chill with my small group of blogging friends!

  2. I know what you're talking about! Not many bloggers in the wide world of blogging respond back in any form. And I've pretty much decided what you did, to just interact with the small group that I'm guaranteed to get a response from and enjoy conversations with them.

All that being said, can I also mention that I have definitely noticed every single one of your comments on my posts? Because I have! Your comments always make me smile. Yet I have been completely aware that I haven't returned the comment love back to you. Not anywhere near as often as you visit me! So I will do my utmost to visit a little more often. I always enjoy what you share! And we seem to have several bookloves in common. :)

  3. YES! It HAS changed so much. Fewer people comment back anymore or bounce around to different blogs for memes. It's kind of frustrating, but I've just rolled with it. I get some responses from people (including you!), and that keeps me going. :)

    1. Well, At least we still have each other. You were one of my first followers.

  4. Yes, I agree with you completely. The blogging world has shifted. People want comments but they're unwilling to comment on other blogs. It makes me crazy. I don't follow new blogs anymore because of it. I know that's miserly of me, but why spend my time that is just as valuable as others' time when they don't make the effort. Like you, I'll just follow my little circle and be done with it.

    1. Exactly! I mean, if I like your blog I'll read it but if you never come around mine, I probably won't bother commenting on yours.

  5. Yes! The blogging world has changed so much in just a few short years! I still can't wrap my head around bloggers joining memes, but never visiting other participants or returning the comment love. I mean, that's the whole point of some of the memes out there!

I've been slacking lately with visiting other blogs and returning comments, but am trying to get back in the swing of things. Doesn't mean I don't appreciate the people who stop by my blog, just means the laziness has won the day.

  6. Just about everything in the book blogging world has changed over the years. Not that that's a completely bad thing! I still think book bloggers are a kind, fun, enthusiastic group, but I think us "oldies" interact differently than the newbies. I still try to visit new blogs and make comments -- if the owners visit and comment back, that's awesome. If not, oh well. I'll still do what I do, you know? I do appreciate all your comments. They always make me laugh and smile :)

    1. Thank you. Yeah I'm thinking the newbies just aren't the same as us.

  8. I am guilty. My blogging started to take a nose dive in 2011. I've tried to stay active by commenting on other people's blog, but failed and so I just gave up in a way. Honestly, I also didn't blog all that much anyway...not about books. But I have started, this year (about 4 months ago), to be more active -- a slow process. And I have noticed how many bloggers are soooo young. I am like wait! I also have noticed a shift towards other "blogging" avenues like Instagram. I love instagram and have just started using my IG account in combination with my blog instead of keeping it completely seperate. Maybe that's where people are commenting more? - IG, FB, Twitter??? I don't know.

Do know, even though my habit of commenting became very lax...I am motivated to change that.

    1. Maybe things are changing. I need to link my instagram account to my blog.

  9. I completely agree with you! There seems to be a strange culture of getting more people to follow you but not worrying about the small details of interaction! It's all about quantity not quality these days and like you I really miss the days when all my blogging buddies were around. Look at us reminiscing about the past like a couple of old ladies!

  10. I have definitely seen a shift in commenting over the years. I've tried to comment on blogs I'm interested in even if they don't comment back, but I start feeling like I'm talking to a wall. I don't understand why people take the time to blog if they aren't interested in engaging in discussion.

    1. I know right? I try to read and comment on blogs that don't respond because I like their content but it's hard when you feel like you're talking to a wall.

  11. Yes, I've been feeling a lack of enthusiasm in the blogging world.

  12. I find myself regularly editing out the blogs I follow whenever I feel like my feedly is too cluttered. It's only the people who comment back on my blog who make the cut. I know that's pretty ruthless, but I only have so much time to devote to the blogging world, you know? That being said, it makes me sad when blogs I love shut down because the authors don't feel the love from the rest of the blogosphere. It reminds me that I really need to be doing this for myself if I'm going to get any satisfaction out of it.

    1. I di the same thing on Feedly. I try to comment on blogs because I like their content but I'm tired of talking to walls.

  13. I know I am guilty of not returning the comments on your blog, cause I am so busy reading books LOL! In all honesty I have to agree with you that the interactions on the blogs themselves have gone way down in the past few years and for me at least it seems that the interactions take place more on twitter (which I am not the greatest about using).

    1. Yeah, I'm not a huge Twitter user so that's hard for me.
