Mini Movie Reviews #8

Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children
I'm actually shocked I even saw this one. First of all I didn't like the book and never finished the series and second of all, my husband never goes to movies like this. He hates anything even remotely "childish". But go we did. I ended up liking the movie better than the book but still wasn't totally impressed or anything. The ending. as I recall (but could totally be remembering wrong) was completely different than the book.

The Magnificent Seven
I haven't seen the original film but I love me a good cowboy movie with revenge and vengince going on. This one was great fun,...but super sad ending. Plus...Chris Pratt. Need I say more? Go see it!

Deepwater Horizon
Honestly, I saw this one because the husband wanted to. These kinds of movies aren't my thing. Too much screaming and explosions just don't engage me. I get bored, if you can believe it? But....Mark Wahlberg is in it and if you recall, I have a tiny little crush on him so it wasn't a complete waste.

  1. We like never go to the movies period, but I will keep these in mind for when they are out of theatres!

  3. I really want to see Miss Peregrine! It looks like they did such a good job with the CGI and the visuals! That's interesting that you think the ending was different than the book. Actually, I don't really remember the book ending too well either but as long as they did the book justice, I don't mind a different movie ending than the book! I also really want to see Deepwater Horizon! I saw a preview when I was watching another movie at the theater (I want to say it was Alice Through The Looking Glass) and it looks really good. I'm with you: too many explosions don't do it for me. But Mark Wahlberg is one of my favorite actors so hopefully I'll like it! Lovely reviews, Jenny!

    1. I thought they did a good job with the movie. And if you like Mark Whalberg there's no harm in seeing Deepwater.

  4. We rarely go to the movie theater, so I haven't seen any of these. I've heard disappointing things about Miss Peregrine's, so I won't bother with it unless/until it comes out on Netflix.

  5. I love seeing movies too. I haven't been to one in a while, though. Corey and I used to go all the time. I want to see Miss Peregrine's and Magnificent Seven. But, I have no desire to see Deepwater Horizon, Mark Walhberg or not, lol.

  6. I had to laugh when I read that you get bored with too much screaming and explosions - I'm the same way! My family always makes fun of me sleeping through action movies haha.

  7. It feels odd to say that I haven't gone to the movie theatre in a while, but I'm hoping to change that when I go see Miss Peregrine's soon. I haven't read the book yet and honestly have no idea what I'll think so it will be a surprise ahah.
I tend to get bored with a lot of action films too... I have to be connected to the characters or story, else I fall asleep during the car chase (from what I've seen there's almost always a car chase XD)

  8. I have not been to a movie in ages! I totally meant to see the first two, but it just didn't happen. I did like the Peregrine books, but from what I saw of the trailer, the movie and characters definitely take a different direction. Hopefully I'll go see Girl on the Train while it's still in theaters!

  9. My husband drug me to Magnificent Seven, and I enjoyed it so much more than I ever expected to! I haven't seen the others, but I kind of want to see Miss Peregrine's. I've read the books, thought they were decent, but am really curious how it was transformed for the big screen.

  10. I can't believe you have seen Miss Peregrine's blah blah blah already!!! I want to see it SO bad! I loved the book, and I'm a Tim Burton junky.

I didn't know you had a little crush on Mark Wahlberg. Was he in your collage?
