Review: Wires and Nerve

Title Wires and Nerve (Wires and Nerve #1)
By Marissa Meyer
Genre Graphic Novel, Sci-fi, Adventure
Format Print
Rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Synopsis
Before Cinder and her friends brought down Queen Levana, she released wolf hybrid soldiers on earth. The hybrids have gone rogue and to help her friend, Iko becomes a hunter. Determined to stop the hybrids before they kill anyone else.

I was excited to read this graphic novel and get more from the wonderful world Meyer created.

Of course, I enjoyed the story but I wasn't as wowed or in love as I wanted to be. A lot of the characters didn't look at all how I imagined them so I'm not sure what I thought of the art.

I loved the relationship between Iko and the guard Cinder sent to help her. It was obvious but funny.

I'm not sure if I'll continue with the series, though. I preferred the novels.

  1. I keep meaning to read something from Marissa Meyer, but I have not. My co-blogger loved the Lunar Chronicles. Sorry this wasn't more of a hit for you.

    1. The Lunar Chronicles were so good. This one just didn’t have enough meat.

  4. ^^ I was going to post the EXACT same thing as Susan! haha I've been so nervous that this one is going to let me down. My hopes were so high! But thanks for the heads up! Now maybe I will finally be brave enough to give it a go.

    1. It's still a fun story within the universe.

  5. Hmm, I always have an issue when movies and graphic novels don't portray the characters like I see them in my head. Especially with a series... I've gotten so used to visualizing them one way, and it's hard to change directions. I eventually got used to the differences with Harry Potter, but I was younger and watched the movies more times than I can remember.

It's a bummer this one didn't live up to your expectations. I love TLC and recently acquired Winter from my library (the audiobooks are awesome). I really like Iko, too. She's been funny from the start.

  6. I do visualise the characters when I read the book; and very often I'm disappointed when they look different in graphic novels or movies.

  7. I remember reading Cinder, vaguely, but I didn't continue the series. No specific reason why. Bummer the graphic novel didn't live up to your expectations, both in story and in pictures.

  8. It can be tough when books are adapted to graphic novels, or characters from the books appear in GN's, especially because of that appearance issue. I always have a certain image too and GN's rarely match it!
