Movie Reviews: Something Borrowed and Hanna

I was really exited to see this one. I wanted to know what the big mystery was. Why this girl was special. Why she was trained to fight....And then I finally saw it. Sigh! First of all the whole movie was filmed like a bad acid trip or a scary fever dream with freaky, weird music and moments that were giving off 90's music video vibes.  It was an interesting story but there were too many things left unanswered. Not like there's going to be a sequel just bad un-thought out writing. So all in all, it wasn't the worst thing I've seen but it just wasn't very good.
I haven't read the book that this movie was based on, but I did read the sequel to this one so I sort of knew how it all was going to end. Still, that didn't change the fact that it was very emotional for me. I think because the guy who played Dex took me by surprise. I figured I wasn't going to like him because I was an Ethan fan but he totally messed with my emotions! He did such a good job. Rachel and Darcy, the female leads, both did a fine job but I wasn't wowed or anything. and Ethan...Wow!John Krasinski did a really good job too! And how has he been hiding that HOT body as Jim on The Office all these years?!!! So, yeah this one wasn't an all time favorite or anything but I enjoyed it and now I want to read the book.

So what movies have you seen lately? Have you seen these two? Do we agree?

  1. I haven't seen either of these. I wanted to see Hanna, but I'm not sure I want to now because of your review. Can I just ask you? Is Hanna Cate Blanchett's character's daughter? That's what my husband and I are guessing.

The most recent movie we've seen is Thor. Wow! It was fantastic and boy did Chris Hemsworth look good!

  2. Jenni Elyse, Yeah that's what I thought too but no, she's not Blanchett's daughter. I keep hearing good things about Thor but I have to admit it looks kinda dumb and I didn't want to see it but maybe I should.

  3. Never heard of Hanna and I may want to see Something Borrowed just for Jim, I mean John. And Thor was fun, a bit silly-ish, but fun. Awesome special effects, which is what movies are all about sometimes, right? That and the shirtless dudes.

  4. Hey, Jenny! I just wanted to stop by and return the visit. If you want a good intro to steampunk, I suggest Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare. It's my favorite book so far this year. You can also get a free download of the prequel to The Girl in the Steel Corset. I read it this morning and liked it a lot. Enjoy!

  5. Suey, You should see it. For John, of course. ;)

Marla, Is it a prequel? I'll have to check that. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll get to those books eventually.

  6. I am so behind in movies, although I have heard of both. Does that count for anything? ;)

  7. I just watched Hanna this week and it was so different from what I expected. I thought the movie was... weird! Saoirse is a great actress though and I loved Cate Blanchett, but the story was a bit disappointing indeed.

  8. I think Something Borrowed sounds really good, and Hanna looks intense! the last movie I watched was Rio, which was really cute and funny, and The Pianist for school...which was a sad sad SAD movie (fantastic though!) :( Thanks for your thoughts, and I think I should really plan to go see Something Borrowed! :D

  9. I went to see Something borrowed earlier this week. Had not read the book, so I didn't have any preconceived notions. I too liked Dex; I think the actor did a great job making him vulnerable, but I can see how he might have come off worse in the book.
I now want to read Something Blue to see how Darcy's story ends. Kate Hudson was just okay I thought; she seemed to be reprising her role in Bride Wars though.

  10. Kaye,, That TOTALLY counts! you'd be surprised how many people haven't even heard of what movies are out there.

Selina, Yes, weird is the best way to describe it. Weird, weird, weird!

iluvreadingtoomuch, I haven't see The Pianist and Rio looked cute but I haven't seen it yet either. You should see Something Borrowed, I liked it.

TheBookGirl, I'm glad you agreed with me about Dex, I wanted to dislike him but I couldn't. What a great actor! You should read Something Blue, it made me able to handle Darcy in the movie cause I knew she got better. And, yeah, she did act like she was reprising her role in Bridesmaids!

  11. OMG Something Borrowed is probably my all time favorite book. And I am strickly a YA reader these days. But before I got into young adult, I loved chic-lit. Anyway, I haven't seen the movie yet because I'm afraid it might taint how I feel about the book. The book was just so amazing that I know it can't be topped. And I loved Something Blue too. Although, I haven't been crazy about any of Emily Giffin's other novels.

  12. Sarah, Yeah, I heard the movie took some liberties with the book and changed some stuff so you might not want to see it but the guy that played Dex was amazing and that made it work for me.
