2016 Year End Wrap-Up

Reading
Well, I set a goal to read 65 book and only managed 49. Goodreads thinks I read 52 but I DNF 3 books.

I'm sad to see that most of my books were 3 star books. And there's far too many 2 star books too. Don't you think? At least there's a good number of 4 star books and only 2 1 star books. That has changed dramatically from previous years.

I found this past year that I leaned more towards adult books. I'm not sure if YA books are just too childish for me now or if I was just going through a phase but I definitely read more adult books.
25 adult
21 YA
2 MG
1 Children's book
3 DNF

I set a goal for myself to finish some series finally and I did manage to finish 4. I was hoping to do better but am pleased with what I did manage.

Blogging
Mostly, I think I posted reviews and wrap up posts. I didn't do many discussion posts or random posts. I don't know why I find it so hard to blog but I do and have seriously considered giving it up. I'm not sure I'm quite ready to do that yet but I doubt 2017 will have tons of discussion/random posts either. I think it will be more of the same. Oh well.

Personal
I posted about my miscarriage and that, and a horrible cold that turned into laryngitis and a trip to the emergency room with pleurisy, made the latter end of the year incredibly horrible.

However, 2016 wasn't all bad. My husband and I were able to purchase two duplexes and though remodeling was a huge headache and stressful, I feel incredibly blessed to be securing our future.

We also took a trip to the Oregon coast and spent New Years Eve there. We had a blast...and guess what? I didn't even stay up on New Years Eve after all.

  1. Sorry that 2016 had some bad points, but glad you enjoyed New Year's. Hope you get some great reading done in 2017!

    1. Thanks. It was a good New Years Eve and I'm already excited about my reads for this year.

  2. I'm jealous of your Oregon trip. I want to go see the Redwoods someday.

I'd like to read more adult books. I would like to read about characters I can relate to.

Sorry about your lows in 2016. You had some pretty rough ones. If you ever need anything, I just around the corner! Let me know.

    1. Thanks, Kami! You're too sweet! Adult books are easier to relate to...I guess that means we're adults. :(

  3. Hopefully your 2017 will be better! It sucks to end the year on a bad note.

I didn't meet my Goodreads goal either and I'm hoping I'll be able to this year. I actually admire how you're able to rate books with so few stars! I think I'm much too generous (my average rating this year is 4.11 stars) and I'm trying to be my realistic and less optimistic.

    1. I'm trying a lot harder to rate books higher and be more generous but I have a hard time.

  4. Most of my reads are 4 stars... either I'm too generous with my ratings (which I probably am) or I've gotten better at putting down books that aren't great. I no longer look at 3 stars as bad, so I did hand those out more, but I only had a few 2 or lower stars. Hopefully 2017 brings you better books, better health, and more of the good things 2016 handed out and a hell of a lot less of the bad.

    1. Thanks! I consider 4 stars a very high rating so I'm glad I had so many this year. 5 stars are reserved for new favorites or books I'd read again.

  5. I know 2016 was a tough year for you; here's hoping 2017 is miles better! I ended up reading a lot of 3-star books last year, too. I had a few 4- and 5-star reads, but I'm hoping to increase their number this year. So here's to both of us finding better books to read in 2017! :)

  6. Ha ha. If my husband didn't insist on having a small New Year's Eve party every year, I'd probably NEVER stay up to ring in the new year. I much prefer sleeping-in holidays to stay-up-all-night holidays!

  7. I was going to go to bed NYE because I was sick, but I ended up staying up. I'm sorry the last few weeks of the year sucked. I got sick too with the flu and I've been fighting it since Christmas. :/ So, I know how you feel. I'm glad you got a chance to go to Oregon. Your pictures were cool and made me jealous. :)

    1. Thanks. I love making people jealous. ;) Being sick is the worst. I really need to get over this. I'm tired of it lingering.

  8. My ratings are tough, too. I can't help it. I think I only had two 5-stars last year and one of them was a short story. I hope your 2017 goes much better than 2016.

  10. You can make your blog whatever you want it to be, I have been pulling back this year but I always like to post my reviews to be able to look back over the years.
