September Wrapup
September freaking flew by! Am I right?! I managed to read a few more books this month but I'm still disappointed in the numbers. Ah well, here they are.
The Forever Contract by Avery Sawyer.
Not enough depth and what's with the cover not matching the story?
The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
I'm still waiting for this one to makes sense...something tell's me it isn't going to. Ever.
Sulan: Episode 1 The League by Camille Picott
Awesomeness wrapped in perfection! One of my favorites this year.
A Midsummer's Nighmare by Kody Keplinger
Loved the book. Was disappointed in the neat ending, though.
When She Woke by Hillary Jordan
Far from perfect, but, oh, how it made you think!
Odd Hours by Dean Koontz
A reread. Absolutely perfect. I love these books and I adore Odd! (Review on Goodreads)
Favorites of the month were Sulan and Odd Hours and A Midsummer's Nightmare. Least favorite was The Forever Contract.
I upped my reading in September by two books more than August. Think I can manage eight it October?

I'm happy that there were books that you enjoyed in there. ;) I know you enjoy books, lol. I just have to give you a hard time.
ReplyDeleteLOL! I appreciate your teasing. I do like books, I really do! ;)
DeleteCan you manage 8? Yes. And I should do the same! I'm so behind! :P
ReplyDeleteI'm not off to a great start this month but I'll try. ;)
DeleteYou are right! September flew by! That is still quite a few books to be read in 1 month.
ReplyDeleteIt's actually not a bad number. I just feel like I'm not reading anything.
DeleteSo, overall, did you like WHEN SHE WOKE? It's an interesting book for sure, but, in the end, I just couldn't get over my own beliefs long enough to appreciate the MC's plight. I'll be VERY interested to read your review :)
ReplyDeleteI did and didn't. It'll all come out in my review. I need to finish The Scarlet Letter first so I can do a double review and compare.
DeleteI've now read one short story by Margaret Atwood and it was so disappointing. At least I'm not terrified of her, anymore. Just . . . mildly frightened.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you felt the same way I did about When She Woke. I didn't feel gushy about it, the way a lot of people did -- it wasn't perfect. But, it's definitely a good book for discussion.
Yeah, I don't think I'll read anything by her again. It was fine but just weird!
Delete+JMJ+
DeleteFunnily enough, "fine but weird" is exactly how I'd describe a girl I used to know in uni who thought the sun shone out of Margaret Atwood's . . . um, pen. =P
It was knowing her that made me conclude that Atwood just not for me, although I haven't read anything by her. (This might be unfair, but I think Atwood has enough readers not to cry over losing me!)
But I do love something Atwood has said. I paraphrase it now: "Wanting to meet a writer because you liked his book is like wanting to meet a rooster because you liked fried chicken." Since I'm the sort who doesn't actually want to meet writers whose books I've loved (with a couple of exceptions), that really resonated with me!
You're lucky you have enough time and energy to read even as much as you do every month. I'm lucky if I read 4 books a month these days. Oh well, gotta make sacrifices sometimes.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm surprised I managed as many as I did. This month isn't looking too promising time wise.
DeleteThanks for the Sulan shout out! Doesn't it suck that there isn't more time to read? It's rather ironic that I do most of my "reading" in the car while racing all over for my job. :) Ah well, we do what we can, right?
ReplyDeleteYep, I manage to read now mostly on weekends. My evenings are just too crazy lately.
DeleteOh, how I love everybody that loves Odd! I am so sad that there is no new Odd manga to read on October 13th for Dewey's Readathon... :(
ReplyDeleteYeah, those ones are great for read-a-thons. I can't wait to get to the fifth one. I'm putting it off because I want to prolong my pleasure but it's not working too well.
DeleteExcellent reading month! I really really need to get to the ODD THOMAS books. Someday...
ReplyDeleteYes, I'd be very interested to see what you think of them.
DeleteThat's a good reading month. It's always nice to have some books that you really enjoyed. I've heard a bit about The Handmaiden's Tale, but based on your review I think I'd feel the same way! :)
ReplyDeleteIt was a good reading month. I had several I enjoyed...and of course a few I didn't. That's how it goes, I guess.
DeleteIt looks like you had a pretty good reading month! I'll be sure to check out Sulan and Kate gave me Odd Thomas so I hope to get that series started soon.
ReplyDeleteYes, me and Kate are going to single-handedly convince the whole world to read the Odd book. :)
DeleteI think that you can up it, just as long as it doesn't turn into a chore. You did better than me this month:) I am reading my first Dean Koontz book right now! It is his new childrens book it's called Oddkins. I am reading it too my girls and they are going to help with the review. You are one of the people that threw me his way.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of his children books yet. I hope you enjoy it.
DeleteWe read very different things in September (although, I've been in classes, so really I've only read The Raven Boys outside of school stuff).
ReplyDeleteSorry you haven't has as much time to read some more fun fiction books.
DeleteI used to absolutely adore Dean Koontz, but I haven't read anything of his for a long time. I haven't read any of the Odd books though.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about September flying by. I didn't manage to get much reading done either :)
