End Of The Year Book Survey 2017

It's that time of year again! I can never decide whether to just post my top ten favorite books and top ten least favorites or participate in Jamie's End Of The Year Survey. I think I usually rotate or something. Well, anyway, here we are and I decided to participate this year. Enjoy!

Number Of Books You Read:
71
Number of Re-Reads: 4
Genre You Read The Most From: I have no idea. Probably contemporary/thriller/suspense

1. Best Book You Read In 2017?
Ketchup Clouds was my first five star review of the year and while I loved several other books this year too, this one sticks out in my mind. It's romantic, heartbreaking and humorous and I loved it!

2. Book You Were Excited About & Thought You Were Going To Love More But Didn’t?

Daughter of Smoke and Bone and it's sequel's were on my TBR list forever. I thought I'd love them but in the end. I found them too long and unimpressive.

3. Most surprising (in a good way or bad way) book you read?

Attachments blew me away, guys! I've disliked every other Rainbow Rowell book and then I read this one. I adored it!

4. Book You “Pushed” The Most People To Read (And They Did)?

I wouldn't say I pushed The Sugar Queen but I did always think my book club should read a Sarah Addison Allen book and they finally did.

5. Best series you started in 2017?  The Winner's Curse.
Best Sequel of 2017?  The Winner's Crime
Best (WORST) Series Ender of 2017?The Winner's Kiss seriously hated the ending of this series. And the series as a whole had so much promise.

6. Favorite new author you discovered in 2017?

Amy E. Reichert

7. Best book from a genre you don’t typically read/was out of your comfort zone?

This one was such a strange little story that I normally never would have picked up. I ended up loving it.

8. Most action-packed/thrilling/unputdownable book of the year?

OK, this one was a little too long to be unputdownable but it sure wasn't hard to pick back up.

9. Book You Read In 2017 That You Are Most Likely To Re-Read Next Year?

10. Favorite cover of a book you read in 2017?

11. Most memorable character of 2017?

Frank from Be Frank With Me by Julia Claiborne Johnson. And this one didn't even take a minute to think about. Read the book and you'll see what I mean.

12. Most beautifully written book read in 2017?

Not a book I'd recommend AT ALL but it was beautifully written and I plan on giving the author another chance.

13. Most Thought-Provoking/ Life-Changing Book of 2017?

14. Book you can’t believe you waited UNTIL 2017 to finally read?

15. Favorite Passage/Quote From A Book You Read In 2017?

I'm no good at these. I'm not a highlighter.

Not a favorite book by far, but a very fascinating world.

26. Book That Made You Cry Or Nearly Cry in 2017?

29. Most Unique Book You Read In 2017?

Still not sure I understood what was going on in this one.

30. Book That Made You The Most Mad (doesn’t necessarily mean you didn’t like it)?

I don't like these types of endings at all!

~Blogging in 2017~

1. New favorite book blog you discovered in 2017?

Melody's Reading Corner and Do You Dog-Ear?

2. Favorite review that you wrote in 2017?

Sweet Lamb of Heaven was another favorite read of the year and I tried very hard to convince people to read it.

3. Best discussion/non-review post you had on your blog?

Guys, I only had one sort of discussion post on my blog this year! One! So sad.

4. Best event that you participated in (author signings, festivals, virtual events, memes, etc.)?

Can't think of any. I know I went to a few but I've really cut down on author events.

5. Best moment of bookish/blogging life in 2017?

I love that even though all I post are reviews anymore that there's still people out there blogging and reading my blog.

6. Most challenging thing about blogging or your reading life this year?

Finding more time to blog! And finding the time to blog when I'm in the mood. I have a list of discussion posts I want to write but....yeah.

7. Most Popular Post This Year On Your Blog (whether it be by comments or views)?

My Review of Forgotten got lots of views. Funny because I didn't like the book.

8. Post You Wished Got A Little More Love?

I wish my Friday Flicks movie reviews got a little more love but it's all good.

9. Best bookish discovery (book related sites, book stores, etc.)?
Well, I love Overdrive and have come to adore audiobooks but I've also really gotten into book buying at thrift stores. The hunt is so fun! I plan on writing a how to post about this one day.

10. Did you complete any reading challenges or goals that you had set for yourself at the beginning of this year?

I did! I surpassed my Goodreads goal of 60 books and I was going to try to read some series. Not one book in a series but a whole series all at once. I read three this year and am very proud of myself!

It's been another fun year! With my growing love of audiobooks and the huge stacks of books I bring home from thrift stores reading is obviously still a huge love of mine! I can't wait for 2018 and what it will bring!

  1. Ha! I love how you start with The Winner's Curse and changed the best ender to worst ender since I know how much you hated The Winner's Kiss. I'm sorry.

I loved reading your other answers. Great list! :D

  3. I hate that you didn't like Daughter of Smoke and Bone! I've been meaning to read the second book for ages (never enough time). Attachments looks great! I don't think I've read a RR book before.

    Do You Dog-ear?

  4. I never did get around to reading The Winner's Kiss, looks like I'm not missing out on much. I also was not a Daughter of Smoke and Bone fan. :( I'll have to Ketchup Clouds though for sure!

  5. I bought Ketchup Clouds because of you! Still need to read it, but I do look forward to doing that. I also decided to continue with the Winner's Curse series because of you, too. I did like the first book, but just kind of forgot about reading beyond that.

  6. I'm glad you decided to do the survey this year. I loved reading your answers. :) That's awesome that you read three whole series. That's hard to do.

  7. Don't finish The Daughter of Smoke and Bone series!! Don't do it!!

Yes, The Winner's Kiss is a terrible ending to an amazing beginning.

    Hooray for Amy Reichert books!!

  9. Haha I definitely agree with you on It! While it is pretty easy to put down, I find myself reaching for it whenever I can. It's actually kind of annoying because on one hand, it's so addicting, but on the other, it's SO long and there's no way I could read it in one sitting. I still need to finish it but I'm taking some inspiration from this post and I'm going to tackle the rest this upcoming weekend and week! Hopefully I'll have enough time to finish it! I hope you have a lovely 2018, Jenny, and that you find that oh-so-sought-after balance between blogging and life :)

  10. 71 books! Nice. I liked The Breakdown too, especially her revenge at the end lol. And I do need to read Attachments...

I had a very similar reaction to The Girl From the Sea, as I recall.

  11. I really liked ATTACHMENTS as well. It's definitely an underrated Rowell book. I liked FAN GIRL (mostly), but ATTACHMENTS deserves some love, too!

  12. I will have to add Ketchup Clouds to my wish list!

  13. Happy New Year Jenny. I love the Breakdown and Attachments also. Mel's blog is great.

  14. Sounds like a great reading year for you. I think I am going to have to add Ketchup Clouds to my TBR this year. Yay for The Simplicity of Cider, I really enjoyed that one but keep forgetting to look up more of her books. Too bad you didn't enjoy the ending to the Winner's Curse trilogy, I rather enjoyed the way that it ended, more mental than battle.

  17. Jenny, you had a great year! And you read so many great books (so glad you loved It), and you helped push me to read Ketchup Clouds, which was amazing (and really, read These Things I've done by Rebecca Phillips!). Here's to more books in 2018!

  18. I'm going to have to look into Ketchup Clouds. As to the blogging thing . . . I've gotten to where the only things I write that aren't reviews are my Monday Malarkey posts (and, of course, the cat pics on Friday). Everyone seems to like those and the end-of-month Reads in Brief best, so someday I'm going to have to rethink my blogging style. I love your blog, regardless of what you write.

  19. Yes, yes! PLEASE write a how to on thrift shop book buying! I look, but somehow rarely find gems. I'm always amazed at what other people seem to find...

Clearly I need to check into Ketchup Clouds. I remember adding it to my TBR after reading your review, but I still haven't read it. And I'm SO, so glad you loved Attachments! It remains one of my very favorite books ever. And Lincoln....!! Totally fictional crush material! :)
