Read-a-Thon plans

This weekend is my very first time participating in the Dewey's 24 hour Read-a-Thon! I'm very excited. Can't you tell? ;) Around these parts the starting time is 6:00 AM. LOL! There's no freaking way I can get up that early and try to read. I'd just fall right back to sleep. So...when I get up, at long last, I shall be working on these.
I hope I picked some quick, fun, entertaining reads.
Here's where I'll be reading...minus the freaky glowing eyes.

Yeah, I know, my diet makes my snacks boring. Still, nuts are good and I have that nummy hot chocolate.

So, besides a quick break to watch my soccer game,(cause reading's great but...

mmmhmm!) and time spent visiting all you guys, I shall be reading as much as possible.

So, how about you? Are you going to be joining? I'm so excited!

  1. Well, if you're going for "fun", take The Weight of Silence and Speak off your stack 'cause they deal with pretty heavy, not-fun themes (child abduction and domestic abuse in Weight and rape in Speak.)
I never finished Some Girls Are, but I don't think it was too upbeat either.
(Then again, maybe you were being facetious about "fun"?)

  2. Megan, LOL, I guess I should be more specific. I meant fun as in, going on a roller coaster that scares the crap out of you and then you say, "that was fun,".

  3. This sounds like fun! I wish I could join, but I have too much going on at the moment. But, I had been seeing posts about read-a-thons lately and I almost forgot about the ones I had in elementary school. They were so FUN! It makes me want to do one again. Maybe not 24 hours... but probably 12. ;)

Hope you have fun! Even though Speak is a pretty serious read, there is still some humor in the way Melinda views the world around her.

  4. That looks like an awesomely comfortable reading couch! I like the glowing eyes too! :)

The books like great (I've been curious about Crave) but those snacks... I don't know....

I'm so excited you'll be participating. You will be absolutely SHOCKED how fast the day goes... be prepared.

P.S. and you can read and watch soccer at the same time, can't you? :)

  6. Jessica, There's no way I'll make it 24 hours but I'll just do my best.

Suey, It's a very comfy couch! Though maybe buying a black couch with a perpetually shedding cat wasn't one of my brighter ideas. I can't read and watch soccer at the same time! Not if I want to enjoy the hotness. ;)

Dana, Yay! I'm glad I'm not the only newbie.

  7. This is my first time participating also. My start time is 8 am, and I'm not so sure about being up on time, LOL. But good luck!

  8. I think it's funny that I've actually read a book you haven't. I also find it amusing that you thought the place with Caib fishihg, on my blog is pretty and you haven't beeen there. Because when we did the reunion here and we camped on Thousand Lake Mountain we all went to that very spot and played in the water. You see....looks can be deceiving?

  9. Jeez that's a lot of books for 24 hours! I have just recently realised that I am a slow reader so I am probably not going to be very good at a read-a-thon challenge. Good on you for having a go. It's been a while since we got any soccer news too!

  10. I know! I finally got my hands on The Book Thief. I'll make that my read-a-thon challenge. Will try and finish it off by Sunday morning.

  11. Bekka, Yeah, even a great book can't keep me from sleeping in.

Cowboy mom, Oh. Tee hee. I remember now. You talking about Speak is what inspired me actually.

Lan, Yeah, I need a few more soccer posts but I fear people will be too bored. There's no way I can read that many books I just plan on working on each of them through out the day and seeing how far I get.

    Sarah, You should join us!

  12. Follow up comment: Scratch that thought. Tried for two hours to read Book Thief. Couldn't get into it. I think that puts me into a very small minority :(

  13. Looks like you are ready for a great day! I want to see what you think of Speak, I have been eyeing that one on goodreads.

Wish I didn't have the day already booked, because I would love a full day of reading and nothing else!

    Good luck and have fun!

  14. Yeah for the first time! Hope you have fun (I can't ever say no to the read-a-thon, so I'm doing it again...sort of).

  16. Lan, I had a hard time with The Book Thief too. I'd recommend I Am The Messenger if I were you.

Ang, I'm curious what I'll think of Speak too. I wish you could join us. :(

Melissa, I'm excited. I don't know how much actual reading I'll get done but I'm going to try.

iwriteinbooks, Isn't he nice? I can't help but watch. ;)
