Top Ten Tuesday

Today  The Broke and the Bookish asks the question: What are the Top Ten books that left your mouth hanging open because of a cliffhanger or mindblowing ending?

So here goes.

Cliffhangers

I can't believe the cliffhanger the author threw at us! Argh!

This one wasn't so much the plot cliffhanger but the twist Cassel's mother threw in at the end.

Come on, Koontz, this was the only one with a cliffhanger and then you just stop writing them?!!

Mindblowers

Any one who read this one knows what I'm talking about. The whole thing is mindblowing!
I can't even begin to explain how awesome this one was.

I still think about this one and just shake my head. It was such a surprise for me!

Yeah, that's all I can come up with. I know there's more but my brain just isn't working.

  1. YES YES YES to I Am The Messenger! How could I have forgotten that one!?! Also, I LOVED Thirteenth Tale but cannot for the LIFE of me remember the ending!

Here's my list of endings in books that left me with my mouth wide open!

  2. Definitely agree with I Am the Messenger. How could I have forgotten? And White Cat? Love that series.

  3. I need to read the White Cat books. Maybe it'll be good to know going in that there's a twist at the end? And I requested Mercy on NetGalley forever ago. I should probably get around to that one, too. :)

  4. I fell in love with Markus Zusak after I read Book Thief - I will now have to get my hands on I Am The Messenger! Sounds awesome.

  5. Jaime, To be honest, I can't really remember the ending, ending, but the whole book just blew me away.

Melissa, There's tons I forgot and I didn't even come up with ten. :(

Kathy, White Cat is a blast you really should squeeze it in.

Trish, I like I Am The Messenger better than The Book Thief. You're in for a treat!

  7. I agree about Mercy! Have you read the second book Exile? The cliffhanger in that is even worse. I still can't believe it happened like that. The stalker part of me wants to find Rebecca Lim and shake her.

  8. Dang, I guess I need a re-read of Avalon High, I don't remember the ending! Can't really remember the ending of White Cat either... will Red Glove remind me?

  9. Ha ha! I'm with Jamie. I loved Thirteenth Tale, but I can't remember the ending well enough to know if it blew my mind. I know the main person wasn't really who she said she was, but that is about it.

  10. Koontz made my list too (although it's not the same book). I've got I Am the Messenger on my TBR list, so soon I'll know to what "mindblowing" thing you're referring. :)

  11. Annie, Thanks, I thought so. ;)

Lan, No! It doesn't come out in the US till may 2012! :(

Suey, LOL, yes Red Glove will remind you. Avalon High made my re-read list so it's definitely worthy of another look.

Jenni, It was all just so intricately put together. That's what I loved.

couchpotatocritic, I look forward to your thoughts on I Am The Messenger.

  14. I am a huge fan of Odd Thomas (seriously, I have a Pico Mundo Grille coffee mug) but if Koontz doesn't give me more Odd soon then I am going all Annie Wilkes on him (from his friend Stephen King's book, Misery).

  15. Kate, LOL! I'm with you. Let's kidnap him and force him to write the next one. And NO graphic novels, it's not the same!

  16. Dang, I keep dropping spoilers when I'm not meant to. Well you won't be disappointed with Exile at least. Despite the ending.

  17. Lan, Oh, you're fine. Now at least I'll be prepared for it. ;)

  18. I Am the Messenger = The AWESOME.

Avalon High = loved it but need to reread it because I don't remember this mind-blowing ending.

The Thirteenth Tale = what I am currently reading. I LOVE this book, and now I am even more excited about what will happen. I'm about halfway through.

    Great list!

  20. For mindblowers, I'd have to say When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead. I spent the whole book thinking it was mediocre but was blown away by the end!
