In My Thoughts This Fine Day # 7

1 I finally got to watch Downton Abbey season 2. So here comes the gushing. First, Branson and Sybil! Eeep! Favorite part ever was when the house was putting on a show for the soldiers and Mary was singing. The way Branson was looking at Sybil....Sigh!!!! All the drama with Bates and Anna was stressful. Enough said. K, Mary didn't annoy me quite that bad this season but...and don't kill me...I just don't get the fascination with Matthew. I don't particularly like him. He's too effeminate and whiny!

2 I'm finally getting a little reading steam back but the blogging is still overwhelming me. Mostly I'm just so busy and tired all of the time that when I get home from work all I want to do is watch TV and sleep. If I try to read, I fall asleep almost instantly. It's driving me crazy, people! I don't know what to do! :(

3 Speaking of TV...I'm not overly impressed with some of the new shows. I was looking forward to a few of them and was not wowed...at all. The Arrow just can't hold my interest and Beauty and the Beast is way too detective-y for me. Anyone else disappointed in our new shows this season? Thank goodness for some old favorites!

  1. I still found Mary annoying, after season 1 I just can't like her that much.

I have been seriously disappointed with new shows this year. In fact, I can't think of any that I'm still watching it's that bad. Thank goodness for Revenge!!! Which has been totally awesome and badass!

  2. I don't think I've gotten into any new shows... although I'll sometimes catch a few scenes from The Neighbors when my mom's watching it and I've busted out laughing many times. Other than that, I'm sticking with my old favorites.

I'm also in a bit of a slump with reading/blogging. The only thing keeping me going is the read along. Otherwise I'd have nothing new to post, lol. I'm getting behind on a lot of things. We'll both get past it and be able to find some sort of balance. :)

    1. Yeah, I feel pretty bad about the read-a-long. I wanted to join you guys but I didn't manage to get a hold of the book. :( Here's hoping we get our groove back.

  3. How long is your commute? Maybe you can "read" while you're driving to work? You can get lots of free audio books Podio books. I have an account with Audible and get great deals on audio books from them. Sometimes they are even cheaper than the print versions!

Anyway, hang in there, work/life balance can be hard, I totally understand.

    1. Yeah, unfortunately and fortunately my commute is only 5 minutes. :( I'll manage somehow. Already I'm doing a little better.

  4. I can understand about not finding Matthew fascinating. I do still love him, though. But, yes, I love Sybil and Branson too.

I haven't started watching any new shows except 666 Park Avenue and I like it pretty well. I just hope it doesn't get canceled before I know anything.

    1. I hate when shows get cancelled before they tell you anything. So annoying!

  5. I felt the same way about reading for the longest time. Mostly I get put off because I was putting effort into reading just because I felt like I had to keep reviewing so I could blog about it. Now I've realised that my readers will stick around for posts regardless of their content. So please don't put so much pressure on yourself Jenny. If you don't blog as much because you're tired that's okay. It's a pain having to work a full day and then coming home to stare at the computer and visit thirty or so blogs. Do everything at your own place and if it's not fun then let it go.

My other reading issue is that I'm annoyed that I don't seem to like any of the so called popular books. So I always pick them up and then come away really annoyed. At the book, at people who like the book and reading in general. Maybe one good book will rekindle your love of reading. Can I suggest The Breeders by Katie French?

As for TV shows, I haven't been big into anything new. I haven't even seen Downton Abby even though everyone raves about it!

    1. Thanks for all the kind thoughts and advice. I'll definitely check out The Breeders. I don't think I've heard of it but I trust you. ;)

  7. YAY for Downton Abbey! I think I commented before that Mary kind of grows on you and you realize she's not so bad...I know it's hard to believe at first because she's pretty insufferable lol. And I'm personally a Matthew fan...and Branson and Bates and yeah...I just love everyone lol. I can't wait for season 3 to start on TV here...I watched the first episode online, but I just hate watching stuff online since I'm on the computer all day.

I'm so bummed you're still having trouble reading. That sucks! I haven't had a whole lot of time for reading and it's driving me nuts, so I can imagine how you must feel. It's been long enough damn it! There are so many good books to read and you need to read them! ;-)

If it makes you feel better, I haven't read any novels since the start of November. But that was by choice: I wanted to focus on my Are You Afraid of the Dark? fan fiction, so I'm not "reading" anyone else's writing and just sticking to TV (and an occasional movie). Of course, one could argue that every TV show starts out as someone else's writing! =P

On the other hand, I went through a huge slump earlier this year, when I barely posted anything. And I really felt it because I could compare those "lean" months to some extremely productive months from last year. It makes me wonder whether we'd feel our reading/reviewing slumps so much if we didn't also have the pressures that come with a public blog!

    1. Yeah, without the blog I'd hardly notice my reading slump. I doubt I'd even care. Sigh!

  9. I hope we get to see Branson and Sybil move back to Downton Abbey in Season 3! And I kind of hope that the middle child whose name I can never remember goes to America and marries a cowboy.

Nothing wrong with falling asleep when you read. :) I can't fall asleep without reading and I tell you what I sleep like a baby every night. I just read a lot less I guess. It takes me a week or more to read a 300 page book.

  10. I think Matthew is awesome looking, but sometimes he bugs me too. Especially during certain episodes in season 2. Loved Branson and Sybil too! Oh man.... yes. You know I've been watching season three and...and...and... oh man... and I can't wait for everyone else to watch to so we can talk!!

I hope and wish for your energy to come back. :(

  11. Okay, we are just going to have to agree to disagree about Matthew's attractiveness! I adore Bates and Anna, but seriously sometimes he just needs to speak up and stop getting into awful situations because of his pride and honor code! Although, would I love him as much if he weren't so rigid in his morals? I don't know. I can't wait for season 3!

And yes to Revenge!! I haven't adopted any new shows this year- I was disappointed in Revolution, didn't even try 666 Park Avenue (which was a good call!)or any thing else. I'm having a hard enough time keeping up with old favorites!

And right now I'm watching the last hour of He's Just Not That Into You for the fifth time in two weeks because it is on over and over again and yet I keep failing to catch the beginning... although I probably own the movie. lol

Wishing you the perfect read to capture your interest!

    1. Yes, we'll have to agree to disagree. At least we both love Odd....and Revenge. ;)
I LOVE He's Just Not That Into You.

  12. I found the Bates and Anna plotline super stressful too! Just goes to show how emotionally involved you can get in a television show :P That sucks about falling asleep reading! Hopefully you'll find your way back into a reading groove soon!

    1. Yeah, it never fails to surprise me how emotionally invested I can get in TV.

  13. I like Matthew... I don't know why. But I do. Not as much as Sybil and Branson. Fingers crossed for more of them in season three!

  14. I love Matthew but he is really severe in Season 3. I still enjoyed it, even though there were times I wanted to wring his neck.

    1. I'm interested to see what season 3 will bring. I'm doubtful Matthew will ever grow on me. Oh well.
