Mini Movie Review #7

I seriously should do better with movie reviews around here. I go see a movie practically every week with my husband on our date night so I see a lot of them! Anyway, here's a few we've seen recently.

The Legend of Tarzan
Oh boy. Truthfully I wasn't dying to see this one. But, as I mentioned, my husband and I go out once a week to see a movie (mostly for the popcorn) and sometimes we don't have much to choose from. This one was as ridiculous as I thought it would be. Shirtless hero, helpless female, mustached villain. Slow motion swinging from vines scenes. While entertaining, I wouldn't see it again.

Star Trek Beyond
Let's face it, I see the Star Trek movies  to be entertained and for the characters. I never could get into the series but I do enjoy these movies. This one was great. Adventurous and comedic. I'd say it's worth the watch.

 Jason Bourne
The whole reason I decided to write a movie review post. I love the Bourne movies. I've seen them a dozen times each at least. So, you can imagine how happy I was that they were making another one. Sigh! I even re-watched all the other movies this weekend in preparation! I was so disappointed, guys!  It was entertaining enough but it didn't feel like a Bourne movie. Something was just off. Jason wasn't as cool as in the other movies and I was actually bored. I figured out what was wrong the morning after seeing it. They uses a different screenwriter. Stupid, stupid, Hollywood! Makes me furious. Movie stars and directors do NOT make the movie. You need a decent screenplay! Even The Bourne Legacy (you know, the one without Matt Damon) was better than this and why??? Because they had the same screenwriter that wrote the other Bourne movies! So, yeah, don't waste your time. The others are better. This one just couldn't live up to Tony Gilroy's writing.

  1. That's a bummer about the new Bourne movie. The fact that you were bored is... a really bad sign. I totally agree that you need to start with a good screenplay. As much as I love Matt Damon, he can't fix a bad script!*

*Actually he probably could, if they let him rewrite it.

    1. Ha ha! Yep. They should have let him write it.

  2. Mustached villain? Seriously? That's a bit too much even for me. And I'm sorry Bourne disappointed you! I haven't seen it yet, but I was so excited about it!

  3. So, I've seen Star Trek Beyond and I loved it! I'm glad you did too. I still want to see the other two, even if you didn't like Bourne. I'm sorry you were disappointed, though. :(

    1. Well, hopefully you enjoy them more than me.

  4. I have no desire to see the Tarzan movie and only a tiny bit for the other two. Sounds like I can wait until they come out on Netflix or at least the dollar theater.

  5. I'm so glad I didn't go and see Tarzan! The trailer looked terrible! I don't understand why Hollywood insists on changing a formula that works. I have a feeling they think that movies will be successful off the back of previous ones but we're not stupid!

    1. Yeah, I'm getting tired of remakes. Why don't they come up with original ideas.

  6. I was wondering about the new Jason Bourne movie...I loved the others, but the previews for this one didn't draw me in like the others did. That's too bad that it ended up being disappointing. Maybe I'll save my $7 and stay home this weekend and watch the Olympics instead. :)

    1. Sounds like a plan. I was so excited too. It just wasn't the same.

  7. Thanks for these reviews. You should keep doing them! I will not bother with the Tarzan movie, as I wasn't excited about it anyway, but I'm sad about the Bourne movie. I like that series, too, except I haven't seen the fourth one. Maybe I'll at least see that one, instead of this new one?

    1. Yeah, just watch the fourth one. Skip this one.

  8. 1 out of 3 is a bummer, but that's so great you guys get to go see a lot of movies.

  9. I didn't know you were a big movie goer. I love movie theater popcorn! It is the best! I haven't seen any of these movies, and I probably won't. Sorry Bourne was a disappointment to you.

  10. I'm really eager to see the Star Trek movie but the husband is disinterested. Sounds like I need to just go see it on my own. Might as well.

That's terrible about the Bourne movie. And, you're right - changing screenwriters is a ditzy move. They had something great and shouldn't have messed with it. I'll avoid that one.

Tarzan doesn't appeal to me at all so I wouldn't have seen it, anyway, but it's always good to have confirmation that a movie you plan to skip wasn't worth the time.

Cool that you guys go to the movies weekly. We almost never go - maybe once or twice a year, max. I guess we saw our movie of the year. We went to Hunt for the Wilderpeople in Sydney. It was loads of fun. We're planning to get a DVD copy, eventually.

  11. It seems like in general, people are saying the new Bourne movie is a bit of a bust which is pretty sad me as that series is one of my favorite action series'! I do agree with you: the screenwriter makes all the difference! And Legend of Tarzan... while I do want to see it, I just watched the Batman vs Superman movie and it was the same: buff heroes while the love interest (and only one of two women in the movie) is constantly helpless and needs saving. While I loved Man of Steel, that was a little much for me. Great reviews, Jenny!

    1. Yes! You like the Bourne movies! Then you'd totally get it. If you see it you'll have to tell me what you think.

  12. I feel like there's been no good movies this summer. So sad. Bummer about the Jason Bourne one too. Dang it.

    1. Yeah, it's been a bit of a crappy summer for movies.

  13. I still want to see the Bourne movie, but I can wait. We went to see Suicide Squad on vacation and it was truly terrible. It was just so poorly written and edited... but I do love the whole going to the movies experience.

  14. Oh no, Bourne was disappointing, hmmmm. We were upset that we missed it but it was to much going on. We had a family movie night and went to see Pete's Dragon, I thought it was a very sweet movie, my daughter is 9, she enjoyed it. Your Tarzan comment, cracked me up but the popcorn was worth it right.

  15. Movies are so much about the cinematography these days. The visuals are usually pretty amazing.

  16. I was SO excited for Jason Bourne! But I keep reading reviews that say it isn't that great. Which just disappoints me. :(
