Review: Pivot Point

Title Pivot Point (Pivot Point 1)
By Kasie West
Genre YA Supernatural Romance
Format Print
Rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️

As a Searcher, Addie can look into the future and see the outcome of her choices. But choosing whether to accept a date from the cute guy that asks you out or not is nothing compared to the choice she's facing now. Her parents are divorcing and she has to choose who she'll live with.

First Sentence
"Heads up," a loud voice called from my right.

I've been meaning to read this book since it's release five years ago. Whoops! I also wanted to read it because Kasie West now seems to be writing strictly YA contemporary romance. I read The Fill-In Boyfriend and liked it well enough but thought maybe since this one, and its sequel, have a supernatural element to them, I might like them better.

Sadly this one still focused a little too strongly on the romantic side of things. I could have happily accepted that considering I couldn't stop turning pages and had zero qualms about the writing style but the supernatural elements has some logistical problems that took away from my overall enjoyment.

I'm still going to read the sequel and sooner rather than later but I'm hoping it improves on the supernatural side of things. As for the romance?..Kasie West seems to have that down to an art.

  1. I read this one awhile ago and honestly can't remember much about it except that it was confusing. I never did read the sequel. Kasie West seems to have found her niche in sweet YA romance -- I wonder if she'll eventually branch out again to other genres?

  2. I remember when this book came out. It's a shame the supernatural part is what wound up not working so much for you.

  3. This was one of my favorite books a few years ago. I don't remember the logistical problems, but that's fine lol. I hope you enjoy the second one.

  4. I've wanted to read this one for a while too, it's one of those books I saw a lot when I was starting blogging, but sadly never got to. Bummer the supernatural element wasn't done a little better, but I love the whole choices thing.

  5. I really liked this one, but I liked the one contemporary romance of hers that I've read better. So, maybe she decided she was better at contemporary. I don't know. It'll be interesting to see what you think of the sequel.

  6. I haven't read anything by this author but this book sure catches my attention. That cover is awesome too.

  7. I had the same sort of reaction to this. I buddy read the series a while ago and while it was an enjoyable read, I forgot everything that happened two days after finishing it which is never a good sign.
