December Wrapup 2012

Considering the lull I've been in and the holidays, I'm impressed I managed a whole four books in December.  Anywho, here they are.

Shut Out by Kody Kelpinger
Oh, how I love the steamy kissy scenes.

Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry
A little too long for a YA contemporary and what's with him calling her babe? Ugh!

Unwind by Neal Shusterman
I really was expecting a more fast paced story but all in all, I liked it.

The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
Why, when I wasn't forced to read in high school, did I feel the need to torture myself now? Sigh!

Favorite of the month was Shut Out least favorite was The Scarlet Letter. Here's hoping for more books read in January.

Best And Worst Of 2012

It's that time again! I know you all are listing the best books you read this year and I wanted to join you. But I can't resist throwing in the WORST books too. So here you go!

BEST!

This retelling was spectacular! If you haven't read it, you must!

Oh. My. Awsomeness! Please don't tell me this one just isn't your type. You HAVE to read this one. It will mess with your mind...in a good way. ;)

Beautiful! Romantic! Heat warming! Touching! (do you feel like you're reading one of "those" reviews yet?) Seriously, though. A must read. ;)

The greatest unknown, unheard of book ever! So romantic and sweet!

I LOVE this series. I loved how it ended...well, I want more actually but I'm OK with the ending.
Oh, Cassel! Sigh!

Like you didn't know this book would be on here. ;) Once again I plead with all urban fantasy lovers to read this series. Please!

In a world of overused plot line and overdone love triangles comes something refreshingly unique!

FINALLY more Odd to enjoy! And I did, I did!

This was the only book this year I just could NOT put down! I adored it! I want more! You hear me, Camille, I want more!

So startlingly real! I love this woman's books! They make you laugh and cry and fall in love...sigh!

Worst!
(And the real reason you're reading this post)

LA LA LA, LA LA LA (That's the Smurf song, btw) The entire book fit that theme song. Can you say all over the place?!

Oh, John, my boy. Quit trying to discover yourself by writing about yourself. It's SO ANNOYING!

It sounded good, it was urban fantasy (my favorite genre) but oh how scattered and boring. Sigh!

A book about bunnies?! I expected magic or superpowers but no. Just bunnies doing bunny things. And lest you think there's some symbolism there, NO! Don't you dare try to make this book better in your mind. The author says there was no symbolism.

The author could have TRIED to disguise the fact that she ripped off She's The Man a tinsy bit better. Just sayin'.

Just thinking about this series makes my eye twitch and my hands involunteeringly pull at my hair. Stupid, stupid, stupid characters!

Just sad and dark and depressing. Maybe that's Neverland to some people but not me!

"Oh, no she din't!"  Oh, yes I did! What a pretentiously written book.

If you're going to make a story THAT boring the least you could have done was make it surprising. But, no. Predictable, thy name is Ender's Game.

Feminist? Anti-feminist? We'll never know, we're still trying to figure out what the heck happened!

November Wrapup 2012

Well, despite my slump I managed a few more books this month...not by much but hey.

The Adventures Of Tilda Pinkerton by Angela Shelton
Best read aloud to children.

Forgive my Fins by Terra Lynn Childs
Finally a mermaid book that takes place underwater...if only there had been more plot.

We'll Always Have Summer (summer #3) By Jenny Han
What an ending! A love triangle done right.

Falling for Hamlet by Michelle Ray
I'll stick to the original thanks.

Favorite of the month was We'll Always Have Summer. I was so emotionally invested in the love triangle. Least favorite...Hmmm, not sure. I didn't HATE any this month. Crazy huh?

October Wrapup 2012

Oh boy. Well at least I read two books this month.  Life's been crazy busy and I've been stressed and depressed. I'm sorry to all my blogging friends. Excuse my absence around here and on your own blogs. I'm not giving up but I need a break. :( Anywho, Here's the two books I read this month.

The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E Smith
Cute and fun with just a touch of depth.

Odd Apocalypse by Dean Koontz
Weird and creepy but, oh, how I LOVE Odd.

Yep, that's it. And I liked them both. So I guess if you only manage two books in a month but you love them both then it's not too shabby. Am I right? ;)

September Wrapup

September freaking flew by! Am I right?! I managed to read a few more books this month but I'm still disappointed in the numbers. Ah well, here they are.

The Forever Contract by Avery Sawyer.
Not enough depth and what's with the cover not matching the story?

The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
I'm still waiting for this one to makes sense...something tell's me it isn't going to. Ever.

Sulan: Episode 1 The League by Camille Picott
Awesomeness wrapped in perfection! One of my favorites this year.

A Midsummer's Nighmare by Kody Keplinger
Loved the book. Was disappointed in the neat ending, though.

When She Woke by Hillary Jordan
Far from perfect, but, oh, how it made you think!

Odd Hours by Dean Koontz
A reread. Absolutely perfect. I love these books and I adore Odd! (Review on Goodreads)

Favorites of the month were Sulan and Odd Hours and A Midsummer's Nightmare. Least favorite was The Forever Contract.

I upped my reading in September by two books more than August. Think I can manage eight it October?

July Wrap Up 2012

Well, this was the last month I'll actually have read more than like, oh, three books. Sigh, the draw backs of having a full time job. Anywho, on to the books I read this month.

Struck by Jennifer Bosworth
Um, just watch the book trailer and save your self the pain.

Vanish (Firelight 2) by Sophie Jordan
Stupid dependent female MCs!

Artemis Fowl (Artemis Fowl 1) by Eoin Colfer
A sophisticated MG? Who knew that was possible?

My Ridiculous Romantic Obsessions by Becca Wilhite
Ah, to relate to a book so well. Love!

Emma by Jane Austen
It's Austen, people! I can't complain too much but this one wasn't my favorite.

Circle Spinner And Other Tales by Elizabeth Baxter
Short stories done right!

Unbreak My Heart by Melissa Walker
A dual love story! Not sure I've ever read one of those before.

Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson
Hmmm, slower and weirder than I thought.

Favorite of the month was My Ridiculous Romantic Obsessions. So good! Least favorite was Vanish. Ick!

June Wrapup 2012

And now June has come and gone.  I feel like I hardly read anything this month but looking back I'm a little surprised at the numbers. So, here you have it.

Spartacus: The Gladiator by Ben Kane
Historical fiction that didn't feel too historical.

Overbite (Insatiable 2) be Meg Cabot
Meg Cabot writes adult book??? And they're about vampires? Yep.

About A Boy by Nick Hornby
Unlikely yet sweet tale of two "boys" and how they change each other for the better.

I Believe In Jesus Too by Mark S Nielsen
Cute picture book about LDS beliefs.

On the Island by Tracey Garvis-Graves
Exciting survival  story meets romance bordering on erotica. Oh my!

Bad Kitty (Bad Kitty 1) By Michele Jaffe
Ridiculous fun with laugh out loud humor.

The Color of Evil by Connie Cocoran-Willson
Suspense meets supernatural in a small town.

Endure (Need 4) by Carrie Jones
Blah, blah, blah Astley something, something, Astley.

Song of the Sparrow by Lisa Ann Sandell
Beautiful verse novel with romance and adventure.

The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater
The most unique story I've read if a LONG time.

Favorites of the month were About A Boy and The Scorpio Races. I didn't really have any least favorites. Sheesh! look at me! I usually read at least a few books that I hate. Either I've been lucky or I'm getting a little less picky. Who knows. Happy reading!

May Wrapup 2012

And May is over and we're almost half way through the year. Eeeep! I'm so proud of myself. I read quite a few books in May and almost caught up with my Goodreads challenge!

Precious Bane by Mary Webb
The great unknown classic. May it become a little more well known.

Happyface by Stephen Emond
The story just couldn't hold up to the great art.

On The Bright Side, I'm Now the Girlfriend of a Sex God (Georgia Nicolson 2) by Louise Rennison
Not quite as funny as the first but still fun.

Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta
Realistically perfect. A new favorite!

Notes To Self by Avery Sawyer
A short read with a big beautiful story.

Star Crossed (Theif Errant 1) by Elizabeth C. Bunce
Amazing plot and a great MC combine to make this one a real treasure.

Once Was Lost by Sara Zarr
Oh the symbolism! Loved this one!

The Fox Inheritance (Jenna Fox Chronicles 2)  by Mary E. Pearson
Started with promise ended in disappointment. :(

Stolen: A Letter To My Captor by Lucy Christopher
Intense and unputdownable but with a depressing ending.

Life As We Knew It (Last Survivors 1) by Susan Beth Pfeffer
Another intense read but where was the hope?!

Didn't Finish

Tempest Rising (Tempest 1) by Tracey Deebs
Boredom in the guise of YA paranormal romance.

Touch of Frost Mythos Academy 1) by Jennifer Estep
150 pages in and it was still barely getting started. Maybe I'll try another time.

Favorites of the month were Saving Francesca, Precious Bane and One Was Lost. Least favorites, obviously the ones I couldn't finish.

April Wrapup

Wow! April's over and I've done a monthly wrapup post for a whole year now!

It was a weird month. The first half went well the second seemed to drag a bit. I think that had more to do with my mood than what I read but oh well. Here's what I read this month.

The Minority Council (Matthew Swift 4) by Kate Griffin.
Awesomeness of course! If you'd give in and read these already, you'd know what I'm talking about. ;)

Black Heart (Curse Workers 3) by Holly Black
I really hope she writes more in this series. I NEED more Cassel

Watership Down by Richard Adams
500 pages about bunnies? A touch long.

The Demon's Lexicon (Demon's Lexicon Trilogy 1) by Sarah Rees Brennan
I'm intrigued, more please.

Return to Exile (The Hunter Chronicles 1) by E.J Patten
The next great MG? I can see that. Witty humor and crazy adventure.

Yeah, that's all the reading I accomplished this month. Favorites were, The Minority Council (obviously) and Black Heart. Least favorite, Watership down.

Classic Double Challenge 2012

K, I won't be participating in a ton of challenges this year but when Melissa from One Librarian's Book Reviews came up with this challenge I figured I could handle it. Plus I think it's an interesting challenge. Want to know what it is? Well, if you look very closely at the button up there you'll see that the "bread" is Pride and Prejudice and a retelling of P&P, Enthusiasm. Is it making sense yet? So, you read a classic and then either a retelling or a book that is closely related to that classic. What do you think? I think it's going to be a blast. This isn't just a challenge that you read a certain amount of books in a certain genre, but one were you get to do a fun post where you compare the two books. How interesting will that be? I'm excited!

There's different levels too.

Small: You read 2 related books.

Medium: You read 4 books (2 sets of related books).

Large: You read 6 books (3 sets of related books).

Super Size: You read 8 books (4 sets of related books).

I'll just be doing the small challenge. I haven't decided on the books yet, I'll have to think about it, but I'll come up with something.

Care to join? Head on over to Melissa's blog and sign up.
