I Just Couldn't Resist: Another Top 10 Of 2011

Yeah, well, as you all know I'm kinda a picky reader...just a little. Alright, a lot! So, I just couldn't resist listing the top ten books that I HATED this year. Yeah, you heard me, HATED. Alright, hate is a strong word, lets just say they invoked a lot of anger in me. ;)

So, in descending order of, pretty awful to, what-moron-published-this-crap, I give you my list.

10.  Wither by Lauren Destefano
Who the heck cares if you pulled some heartstrings, you have to actually make sense!

9. Ella Minnow Pea by Mark Dunn
Oh, the convenience! The religious bashing! *shutters*

8.  Some Girls Are by Courtney Summers
Geeze, talk about a book that makes you want to kill yourself...or maybe just the stupid un-progressive characters.

7  Forever by Pete Hamill
It just went on and on...forever. ;) Hee hee.

6. Sleepless by Cyn Balog
Ugh, when great potential goes bad.

5. Intertwined by Gena Showalter (pre blog review)
It sounded so cool and then...well, it was bad.

4. Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier (pre-blog review)
The depression this one induced...ugh!

3. Birthmarked by Caragh O'Brien
Yeah, blame it on high expectations but seriously? WTH?!

2. Divergent by Veronica Roth
But it was dystopian, I'm supposed to just mindlessly like it. I don't freaking think so.

...And the stupidest book I read this year was...

1. Ripple by Mandy Hubbard
Bad writing, bad editing, bipolar MC. Yeah, what a waste of paper!

Honestly, I didn't like these ones, but I  still hope you had a good laugh reading my reviews and taking a look back at the books that drove me insane this past year. :)

  1. Lol nice list! I'm still surprised you didn't like Divergent, but everyone has their own tastes and reading preferences! Hopefully you'll have better luck in 2012 :)

  2. HA! I love how you said at the end Ripple was a waste of paper! I was just convinced that Wither was an awesome read and I just added it to Goodreads. Well, now I have to back and take it off! It didn't sound like a promising read anyway.

  3. I love it! I did a post today that included my least favorite reads & was all worried that would be too negative. But your list is hilarious. I've only read two of those (one made my list, too) but I'll be sure to stay away from the rest. :)

  4. You are officially the only blogger I've seen who doesn't like Divergent. I haven't read it yet but sometimes I dislike the ones that everyone else loves, so regardless of whether I like it or not I will be curious to reread what you think about it!

  5. I got Wither from the library and it's still just sitting there. I tried to start it and... meh.

Ella Minnow Pea is in my TBR pile, too. I still want to get around to it someday.

  6. Natalie, I'm kinda surprised I didn't like Divergent either but such is life.

Roxy, It wasn't THAT awful I just like my plots to be well crafted and this one didn't even try.

Kathy, I know, I fear I sound so negative. I try to be funny about it but...who knows if it comes off that way.

L.L, There are others that didn't like it but we're a small group. ;)

La Coccinelle, Wither just wasn't worth it in my opinion. Ella Minnow Pea wasn't terrible I just didn't like the convenience.

  7. LOL Jenny! This is the best post ever. Hate is a strong word but sometimes it's just appropriate isn't it? I just didn't get Wither either. I didn't mind Divergent but only because I just stopped trying to make sense of it all!

  8. Lan, Thanks for enjoying it! I'm glad you didn't get Wither either.

  9. As you know, your "hate" list doesn't scare me in the least! I will STILL read these.. well some of them.. well those that cross my path and jump in my face anyway.

  10. Great list idea!! And I love the way you hate. Your comments are so fun (well maybe not for the author but I enjoy them.) Thankfully I managed to miss these all together - I guess I didn't miss much. Happy New Year, Jenny!

  11. Suey, I wouldn't have it any other way. ;) Seriously, I sometimes feel bad when I turn people off a book.

Dana, I know, poor authors. :( I'm glad my comments made you smile.

  12. Oh, I loved 2 of your worst reads and liked one (but read it so long ago that I don't remember much about it, except that it made me laugh and creeped me out equally . . . that would be Ella Minnow Pea). All three have a common problem with violence. Could that be a big turn-off for you? It's something I tolerate but dislike and I would have been happier if the violence was toned down a bit in Divergent and Wither. But, I really loved both books in spite of that.

  13. Bookfool, Nope, I kinda like a violent books, just not pointless violence for the sake of violence.

  14. There's something so satisfying in reading your hate em list. I guess it's cause I can't bring myself to write one, so I enjoy reading your rants :)

  15. I love the idea of this list! (I'm too chicken to do it myself.) But I am surprised that ELLA MINNOW PEA made this list. I mean, it definitely wasn't my favorite book of the year or anything, but I didn't have quite the same visceral reaction.

  16. Melissa, Thanks! Strangely it's very easy for me. Probably not a good thing. ;)

Jessica, I know, I'm kinda surprised too but as I looked back at the books I read this year I remembered how angry it made me and it just had to make the list.

  17. LOL - Awesome idea for a post. I've read three of the books you listed and I totally agree with you on WITHER. I loved both BIRTHMARKED and DIVERGENT, though, so I don't know what to say about that except yes, you ARE picky!

  18. Susan, Yes, I'm incredibly picky. *shrugs*
