Ah, what's not to love about Anne? She mature and responsible and amiable. Alright, so she was a little too influenced in her youth but aren't we all a little too worried what family and friends think of us? But Anne redeems herself in the end, she stands up for herself and finally makes her own decisions. By far, Anne is my favorite Austen heroine.
I once took a personality quiz online to find out what Jane Austen character I was. I was Anne Elliot. Yeah, I could see that. I put way too much stock into what family and friends say but I hope I can finally end up with my own Captain Wentworth. So if you want to see what Jane Austen heroin you are you can take the quiz HERE and let me know who you were and if you agree. It's just for fun. Enjoy. And if you haven't read persuasion...for heavens sake! It's the best Jane Austen, you HAVE to read it!

ReplyDeletePersuasion is still my favourite Jane Austen novel . . . but it hasn't been subjected to the reread test yet! (I'm almost afraid to put it through that wringer, but I'm also pretty sure it will validate itself through and through.)
I've always found Anne easier to relate to than Elizabeth Bennet (who seems to be everyone else's favourite). She seems more soulful because of her age and her real regrets. Both heroines get a second chance with the men they love, but I think Anne's is the sweeter experience, because she really never expected it to happen.
It has been so long since I read any of Jane Austen's books, I think its time I refreshed my memory.
ReplyDeleteI did take the quiz and my answer was Fanny Price, I don't recall ever reading Mansfield Park and now I am very curious.
Enbrethiliel, I'm sure it would stand the test. It's a great book, nothing can change that. I've always liked Anne too. Elizabeth is OK, but everyone likes her, maybe they feel they can relate to her flaws. I'll stick with Anne.
ReplyDeleteAng, Fanny Price has always been a favorite of mine, even if I don't like who she ended up with. And that's the only time I've been bothered with how things turned out in a Jane Austen, but Fanny is great.
I was Elinor when I took the quiz... a long time ago! This book is still sitting on my nightstand awaiting a re-read, the one I thought would happen back in March. I think I read the first chapter. I still want to, so it's not going to move until I do.
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping your Captain Wentworth finds you soon!
Suey, So were you happy about the Elinor thing? You should definitely reread Persuasion but I understand how hard rereads are. Soon isn't soon enough but thanks!

ReplyDeleteTwo things I forgot to add last time:
I was Marianne when I took the quiz, and I'm not happy about it. =P (Seriously, I think I'm more like Elinor! But it has been a while since I last read Sense and Sensibility, so I should definitely refresh my memory before challenging the quiz results. LOL!)
Here's my own Character Connection post for the week: Mrs. Huggins.
Enbrethiliel, My sister used to say I was just like Marianne. It made me soooo mad! I never was fond of Marianne and she didn't deserve my favorite Austen hero, Colonel Brandon.
ReplyDeleteI was Elinor and then Jane..hm. I saw a movie a long time ago and I am pretty sure that it was Persuasion. I hated it so much that I never read the book. Is there a ton of adultery in it? Maybe I will rethink that one.

ReplyDeleteJenny: Maybe your sister just fancied she was Elinor and felt she had to cast you as Marianne? (LOL!)
Adams Family, No! There's no adultery! It's a Jane Austen! And you should read this one again. It's the best!
ReplyDeleteEnbrethiliel, That's exactly what she thought! If anything I'M Elinor and she's Marianne. Ah, sisters, what can you do?
It's a close one for me, I'm 90% Fanny, 85% Elizabeth, 85% Elinor - but a personality test I took years ago said my personality was the same as Mr. Darcy's, so I think that trumps! ;)
ReplyDeleteMarie, I'd just stick with Mr Darcy. ;) But I like Fanny and Elinor too.
